The Cullinan

About This Project

Revivalist classical building comprising full-service hotel consisting of 430 rooms with attendant public areas over 30,000m² on the Foreshore. The brief asked for a hotel that would in all consist of 416 bedrooms, a double volume reception area, a pool deck, breakfast room and bar amongst other requirements. The client guided the architects to create a structure that on the exterior was a quasi-classical wonder. The site which was once the old Power Station site at the City entrance to Cape Town’s Waterfront, was in 1999, the location of Africa’s second largest hotel.
