Conversion of a 22,000m² modernist office tower into residential, parking and retail building consisting of 120 flats, swimming pool, gym and 2 levels of retail area.
On the corner of Adderley and Darling street stands a modernist icon, a relic of ideas no longer relevant to Cape Town. The brief: to convert the office block into an apartment complex housing bachelor, two- and three-bedroom flats. From the beginning it was decided that where possible, as much of the existing building’s fabric would be used. Each element of the thirty year old building was analyzed and if it could be reused, it was. Through this practice the exterior began to transform into an inventive façade. This project was one of the first that contributed to the rejuvenation of the Cape Town CBD.
